The
Promise

A bold promise of AI. A team under pressure. And one decision that could change everything.

A comic about what actually happens inside a software department when the word from above is “do AI”. Written for people whose software has to pass assessment, audit or certification before it may run. Out on 8 October 2026, digital and printed.

The postcard handed out at InnoTrans 2026: a speaker on a stage promising factor 90, a software team caught between his outstretched hands, a robot in front of them. Title: The Promise.
The card in your hand.

Four questions while you wait

Four questions, answered honestly, and you know where your department stands. Two of them test how clear the brief to the AI is. Two test whether it can inspect the results of its own work at all.

Answer the four questions

The Monday morning test

A self-assessment with pen and paper, no tooling and no preparation. You need one ticket you know well and half an hour. It shows you how far what your AI understood sits from what you actually meant.

Take a ticket you know well

One you could estimate yourself, without asking anyone.

Ask the AI what it understood

In writing, before it produces a single line of code.

Read it and cross out what is wrong

Not the code. The understanding.

Whatever you crossed out is what it would have built. If step three surprised you, you have understood the comic before reading it.

We are in the middle of it ourselves

We are not there yet either. A card that promised otherwise would be the same card the man on stage is handing out in the comic.

What we measure in our own agentic software development is a gain of roughly 40 to 50 per cent. That is a lot. It is not a factor of 90. Connecting agents to real hardware and real test benches is still the slowest part of the work, and the review load is the first thing that tips over when a team moves faster than it can check. We would rather say that now than in month three.

The honest hour

You do not have to wait for the comic to talk to us. One hour, a real conversation about your setup and the problems in it. We tell you what will probably work in your environment and what will not. You write to a person and a person answers.
